Looking Back at 2014

2014 was a great year for the Agawam Bowmen Club.  We had some great times with great people, made some new friends, and even accomplished a couple goals.

Headway has been made on our utilities at the club.  The large clubhouse has been newly wired, and temporary lighting was installed.  We managed to clear out some space by selling off the old fire bat insulation we weren't using, which has opened up the corner of the clubhouse.  There's talk of possibly putting in a sink/kitchen area, but only time will tell how that space will be utilized.  We managed to get the lighting on the 24 hour range repaired, so that's well lit now, and we've begun work on getting running water to the clubhouses.  We even got a working website up and running.   ;)  Thanks to Adam Goode for the super cool playscape he donated, and to all those who came out to disassemble and reassemble it.  The kids absolutely love it!

We had four great 3-d shoots this year.  Thanks to all who came out to shoot.  We purchased a couple new Rinehart targets that folks may have seen lurking out on the course, and we are planning a budget that allows the purchase of at least two or three new Rinehart targets every year.

Speaking of targets, in an effort to raise money for new targets we've found a creative way to repurpose the old targets.  We kicked off our first annual Zombie 3-D shoot in October, and while turnout wasn't amazing (due mostly to inclement weather), we did manage to squirrel away a few bucks for new targets.  We have bigger and much more ambitious plans for next year's Halloween festivities!  Thank you to all who helped out with decorating, to those who came to shoot, and to Westfield Stop and Shop for donating four really big pumpkins and a $25 gift card for the food we served.  Vern Peabody came out with some amazing venison stew, and if you missed that, I feel for you!

We had a great turnout for our annual pig roast, and even though there were a few hiccups along the way we managed to pull off feeding about 50 more people than expected.  Next year we'll be quartering the pig so it cooks a little faster, and we will make an effort to keep the whole event on schedule.  Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket, and everyone who helped out.  This club wouldn't exist without so many generous people.

Our first meeting of 2015 will be February 2nd and will take place at the Southwick Library at 6pm for board members, 6:30 for regular members.  The Big Buck Contest and the vote for our board of directors will take place, and we will be talking about and sending out a mailer to notify members that we are amending the bylaws in March.

Thanks again to everyone who supported us throughout 2014.  The club is getting better every year, and it's all your fault!
